Emmaus evening services
The whole idea of the Emmaus services is
to offer different evening events that will encourage different ages and
groups to feel able to come. The three different styles of evening services are
outlined below.
The main
reason for these services is to allow those that do not have a faith to feel
that the church is open and not what they always thought it to be. It also
gives us opportunities to invite our friends and families to something that
will be challenging, from a Christian viewpoint, but not intimidating.
Also the hope is that these services will be a chance for us to explore what we can
do as a church. Each of us is able and gifted to do more than we may think, so
be challenged and encouraged to get involved. The Emmaus services run alternately on the evenings of the second Sunday of the month.

Emmaus Moments
Cafe Style
Church is where we sit as if in a cafe. Tables and chairs. The evening has background Christian music. It is very lightly led and the majority of the
time is spent thinking about and discussing issues/events/ideas which are
relevant to us all.
The themes are directed to highlight the Christian
viewpoint and what God/Bible says about them. At some time during the evening
there is normally a testimony, DVD or talk from a Christian with a view to get
people talking/discussing.
Teas/coffee/cakes
etc. feature prominently during the whole evening. Much like a cafe. It is a great
opportunity to talk/chat and have a nice relaxed time with no pressure. The
hope is that it will be a thought provoking evening but easy enough to relax.
Emmaus Messy
Groups of people sit around tables and
there is a time of making/doing/crafting something that has a link with the
evening’s theme. An activity in which all can take part will also link with the
theme and at some point some teaching will happen as a story/video etc.
Included in the evening can be music, games and a chance to worship. But again
the idea is to give us all an easier access into church and to hear the gospel
in a relaxed environment.
Messy church
is beginning to become very popular around the country. This is not
exclusively
a family event but open to the wider family and all ages. Again as in
the cafe
style it is about promoting a relaxed, open and welcoming atmosphere.
The basis
of this evening is to have fun and hopefully learn something about God
and yourself.

Emmaus Magnify
This evening
service will be slightly more geared towards those that already have a faith
but not exclusively. The aim is to be open to explore different ways of
worshipping. Worship is a large part of this event. Evenings take on a more
definite structure and at some point we will hear from a speaker.
The chance to pray for/with each other is an important feature and the
hope is we may become more and more open to hearing from God and seeing what He
wants to happen, happen.
